Single All India PMT Exam from 2011

Medical Council of India has decided to introduce a common entrance examination for the  admissions to various medical colleges from 2011. This single entrance examination will be held for 30000 MBBS seats and 11000 MD seats .There are 138 government medical colleges and 133 private medical institutes. Presently around 17 different medical tests ( PMT) are held for admissions to MBBS admission. It will be replaced by this single common PMT, most likely to be conducted by CBSE on the lines AIEEE. The results and rankings of this single all-India examination will form the basis for admission to all medical colleges, including those run by minority groups and private trusts. It will be mandatory for all institutions to admit students who qualify through this exam. This scheme will bring big relief to medical aspirants who used to appear in as many as entrance test like 8-10.

Advantages of this scheme are many like it will save energy and time of the students. This will cut the cost used to incur for filing many applications. This will bring more clarity & transparency in the admission procedure. Now student will not have to choose between different exams and counseling because of this single All India Common Entrance Test will be applicable all for every medical college. Prior to this, student had to undergo pressure of appearing in different entrance exams. Few people think that this is not good idea as it will bring lot of pressure to aspirants as they will have only one chance of getting admission.
