There are no fixed parameters and methodology to rank B-Schools in India. It becomes difficult to evaluate one B-School with another. Student looking for admission to B-School should do all the research on information available about the particular School. It is like taking big decisions of life for making investment. You can compare it with choosing life partner for marriage or buying a house. These are decisions which shapes your future life. Following are points which one should thoroughly examine and then decide about the B-School for himself/herself.
1 Accreditation - B-Schools have mushroomed like nursery schools all over India. There are about 2000 B-Schools in India, almost only half are recognized by AICTE/UGC. One should verify the recognition/legal status by visiting the website of the AICTE/UGC. There are flaws in our laws which is being exploited by the purely money making B-Schools. Thousands of innocent students are cheated by these unrecognized B-Schools. They will not be eligible for govt. jobs or to go for higher studies. So one should verify the accreditation of the B-School.
2. Average Salary - It is a big indicator about the ranking of B-School. It is a key factor and attention should be given to it. Scrutinize the statistics provided by the B-School because most of the times they hide more than they reveal. Good B-Schools always come with full disclosure. Don’t forget to see the list of the recruiters. Good companies visit only good schools .Recruiting companies know much more about the schools than one can know.
3.Faculty - Weightage should be given to the school having faculty with more experience. Often many school give the name of well known scholars or industry leaders as visiting faculty member which sounds well but its to be checked how frequently they visited school previous year.
4. Fees - Find out the fees and other hidden expenditures. Compare it with salaries offered to the students when they passed out.Try to look for good alumni based survey to make the job easier.
5. Location and Facilities –These may help you inyour decision for choosing B-School if other things being equal, preference should be given to the B-School near to your place of residence as it is going to save cost of hostel and travelling expenses. Preference to good facilities and ambience can be given only if it meets other parameters of good B-School.
