How to crack GMAT exam
In today’s world of cut-throat competition, management studies have become extremely important to advance one’s career prospects. To gain admission into any of the graduate programmes being offered by the various management schools, it is necessary to appear for the GMAT (that is, the Graduate Management Admission Test), and pass the test with an exceptionally high score; a high score is of tremendous importance, as it is a highly competitive examination.
The GMAT aims at testing the candidate’s verbal, mathematical and analytical writing skills, and preparing him for admission into the management school (B-school). It is broadly divided into a Quantitative section, Analytical Writing assessment, and a Verbal ability test. There is a section on critical reasoning, which tests your ability to evaluate logically and manipulate logical arguments. The Data Sufficiency section tests your reasoning ability. The Mathematics section is rather elementary, covering basic mathematics of the high school level. The English, however, is of a fairly advanced level, with a tough vocabulary and complex grammar.
The key to preparing for the GMAT is to be systematic and stay focused. There are many good GMAT books available, which you could refer to, to strengthen your preparation, but you should be careful in selecting the correct kind of books. You should also, most definitely, take mock sample tests. These serve not only to prepare you for the type of questions to be expected, but also to give you an estimate of the time you take to solve them, which is of prime importance. Repeated practice of solving mock tests will increase your speed, and build up your self-confidence. Consulting a GMAT expert, or someone who has already cracked the test could give you valuable tips and guidance on cracking the GMAT.
Systematic preparation and a focused approach help you keep a cool head and a clear mind, to crack the GMAT successfully. So, if you are nurturing a dream of pursuing management studies in one of the best B-schools, get ready to cross the GMAT obstacle, and clear it with flying colours!
